Okay I am not a fan if a traditional trifle because I honestly hate jelly… and then since becoming vegan, I hate jelly even more knowing what it is made of… But! I made a trifle with vanilla cake, vegan boozy custard, loads of flaked almonds, cherries, and you can even add sliced banana and some coconut cream – and this is a festive TREAT I tell you!
What you will need:
- Basic vanilla cake (1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, punch of salt, 1 tbsp vanilla essence, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 3/4 cup plant-based milk – mix & bake)
- Vegan custard – did you know that Moirs custard powder is vegan! Make it following package instructions and using plant-based milk.
- Flaked almonds
- Glace cherries
- Optional – add 1 tbsp brandy to the custard once it has cooled. And dunk the vanilla cake in some plant-based infused brandy milk – transforms the flavours! Makes it so Christmasy!
Layer as desired – the more layers, the merrier!
